E-ALERT FEBRUARY 24, 2017

International Women’s Day (March 8th ) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!

Our Advocacy and Voices through the United Nations since 1947 is our major initiative and the Commssion on the Status of Women was begun at the UN through the work of Esther Hymer our first United Nations representative. The theme this year at CSW 61 is very pertinent to our organization. "Women's economic Empowerment in the changing world of work" Follow the NGO's input https://www.ngocsw.org/

The Leaders Summit held in conjunction will inspire members with the rich background of IFBPW to step up to leadership in the organization. Go to the Website to learn more! https://www.bpw-international.org/

Equal Pay Day is April 4th, 2017

This date symbolizes how far into the year women must work to earn what men earned in the previous year.   Use this link to view ideas on how to raise the awareness on the pay gap that continues to exist.

Great News!

Nevada is one of the states that did not ratify the Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution (ERA), but now there is a chance to fix that. The ERA passed the Senate Committee yesterday and is headed to the NV State Senate. The resolution is expected to pass and many activists in the state are quite optimistic that it will also pass through the House, making it the first state to ratify since 1982.

"Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state

on account of sex."

That's the text of the Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution (ERA), introduced in 1923 and sent to the states for ratification in 1972. Unfortunately, the ERA fell three states short of the 38 states that needed to ratify it to go into effect. We need the ERA to explicitly grant women equal rights and outlaw sex discrimination – that way we can better fight for advancements and rebuff efforts to roll back our rights. The lack of constitutional equality for women reaches every aspect of women’s lives.

The ERA would clarify, once and for all, that sex discrimination in employment, health insurance, Social Security, education, and more is a violation of our constitutional rights as Americans.
